Dodge Lightning Strikes for Fun and Nostalgia in Val

Patch 12.0.7 is sneaking in a love letter to Final Fantasy X fans: inside the Glacial Reservoir on the void-occupied planet Val, players can interact with a Strange Storm Cell to trigger a localized lightning storm. Every few seconds a bolt strikes your position, telegraphed by a brief ground corona — hit the special action button to jump and spin out of the way, or get knocked down.

The Thunder Plains bonus objective is a direct nod to FFX's infamous Lightning Dodger minigame, which took place in an area of the same name and pushed players to dodge up to 200 consecutive strikes to unlock some of the best gear in the game. WoW's version asks for 100 in a row for the achievement A Celestial Pain, and thankfully it's bragging rights only — no locked gear behind it. The Lightning Dancer buff tracks your streak, incrementing on each success and resetting on each failure.
