The questline recaps the history of the Loa — Wild Gods tied to the Emerald Dream — and their deep connection to Azeroth's troll tribes. Li Li reframes loa as a cultural term trolls use for Wild Gods, similar to how night elves call them the Ancients, which is a subtle but notable shift from earlier lore that treated loa as a broader category covering everything from mighty spirits to ascended trolls.

The story hits major beats: Rezan's death and its devastating impact on King Rastakhan, the Drakkari's desperate sacrifice of their own loa during the Scourge assault on Zul'Drak (with Har'koa the only survivor), and Hakkar the Blood God's long history of corrupting troll empires from within — from the fall of the Gurubashi to the cults at Zul'Gurub and the Temple of Atal'Hakkar.
